The following ruling on DISC BRAKES has been made by the Alberta Triathlon Association:
The Technical Committee of the Alberta Triathlon Association (ATA) does not consider the use of disc brakes in KOS non-draft legal races to be a safety concern. As a result, the ATA has ruled that athletes will be permitted to compete in the Calgary KOS race with bikes having disc brakes, in all age categories. This includes road, mountain, and cycle cross bikes. As the designated Alberta Provincial Championship race, all participants will be eligbile to win the Provincial Champion designation. However, athletes competing on bikes with disc brakes will be disqualified from being considered for participation in the Alberta Games. To ensure this rule is applied fairly, the Assistant Official assigned to the Calgary KOS will be recording what type of bike is used by each athlete by bib number.
